Project description
The extension of the daycare centre in Sindelfingen increased capacity for 20 more children. It was completed in a sensitive way without restricting the existing space.
The new building (completed in 2016) is on stilts, providing a roofed play and learning area under the structure. All group rooms and common areas of the nursery on the upper floor have been given generous glazing and allow views of the existing trees on the property and those of the adjacent park. A tunnel slide adjoining the loggia connects the upper floor with the garden in a playful way to create a play area.
The shell is prefabricated, significantly reducing the construction time. Digital processes in the design and implementation as well as the latest production methods in digital printing, the existing tree landscape was transposed on to the [pictura] facade. This allowed the structure to be sympathetic to its surroundings while celebrating the playfulness of the building users.
