Face fixing to metal

Face fixing EQUITONE panels to metal subframing is a cost-effective attachment method and reliable solution for noncombustible construction. This method is widely used in mid-rise and high-rise projects for its simplicity, speed, and code compliance.

  • Economical Installation – Lower material and labor costs compared to concealed systems.

  • Fast and Straightforward – Streamlined installation process helps keep projects on schedule.

  • Durable and Secure – Compatible with robust subframe materials like aluminum or steel.

  • Code-Compliant – Meets stringent fire safety requirements for Type I–IV construction.

  • Design Flexibility – EQUITONE offers coated fasteners designed to match panel colors for a cohesive look.

Fasteners

Fasteners

EQUITONE panels can be securely face-fixed to metal subframing using a variety of exposed fasteners. Choose the fastening solution that best meets your project's structural and aesthetic needs.

  • Uni-Metal Screws: The EQUITONE UNI-Metal Screw is a self-drilling, color-matched fastener with a biodegradable centering tip that enables precise and low-stress face-fixing of 8mm EQUITONE fiber cement panels to metal subframes—without the need for predrilling. It's self-centering clip ensures correct placement.
  • Uni-Rivet: The EQUITONE UNI-Rivet is a color-matched fastener designed for face-fixing 8mm fiber cement panels to metal subframes. The UNI-Rivet can be made from stainless steel or aluminum. Installed through oversized holes with a plastic sleeve, it enables three-way movement to minimize panel stress and offers high pullout capacity—making it ideal for projects with elevated wind load requirements.

Each fastening method is tested for long-term durability and integrates seamlessly into EQUITONE’s ventilated rainscreen design.

Design tips

When specifying face-fixed EQUITONE panels for Types I–IV construction, thoughtful detailing ensures performance, longevity, and visual appeal. Below are key design considerations:

Plan for Movement

Use oversized 11 mm holes in the panel to accommodate thermal expansion and contraction. Designate two STOP points per panel (typically near the center) to anchor the panel, with all other fasteners acting as GO points to allow free movement.

Mind the Fastener Layout

Align fasteners consistently and consider panel module dimensions early in the design phase. A clean, symmetrical pattern enhances the aesthetic, especially when using visible rivets or screws.

Use Foam Tape for Ventilation and Support

Apply foam tape between the panel and metal subframe to create a consistent drainage plain, reduce vibration, and protect the panel’s backside.

Select Color-Matched Fasteners

Choose rivets or screws with color-matched heads to blend seamlessly with the panel finish. EQUITONE offers coordinated fasteners for a refined and integrated look.

Detail Corners and Edges Thoughtfully

Consider edge framing, corner transitions, and window surrounds to ensure continuity and weather resistance while maintaining design intent.

Concealed fixed

Concealed fixing offers a clean, uninterrupted façade appearance while maintaining the durability and performance of EQUITONE fiber cement panels. This method is ideal for architects seeking a minimalist aesthetic without compromising on structural integrity.

  • Sleek, Seamless Design - Fasteners are hidden behind the panels, allowing the material’s raw texture and through-color beauty to take center stage.

  • Enhanced Aesthetic Control - Concealed systems offer greater precision in maintaining consistent joint widths and clean alignment, supporting seamless, high-end facade designs.

  • Tested Performance - Meets stringent fire safety requirements for Type I-IV construction.

  • Panel Protection - No face penetrations reduce exposure to environmental stress, preserving long-term panel integrity.

EQUITONE panels can also be securely installed using concealed fixing methods, such as Tergo+ and TUF-S anchors.

  • Tergo+ Undercut Anchor: The Tergo+ is a stainless-steel undercut anchor designed for concealed fixing of 8 mm (and up to 12 mm) panels. After drilling a cylindrical-conical undercut hole, the anchor expands into the panel’s core—creating a stress-free, lock‑in attachment at an optimal structural point. It completely disappears from the façade’s surface, supports larger format panels, and delivers high load capacity and long-term stability.
  • TUF‑S Blind Fastener: The TUF‑S is an austenitic stainless‑steel blind fastener suitable for fiber cement panels. It installs through a simple drilled hole—no undercutting required—and is set using a battery riveting tool. Upon mandrel removal, radial expansion grips the panel securely, offering high pull‑out resistance, quick single-person installation (up to 50% faster than conventional concealed systems), and the option for removal if needed .
